Today marks another significant milestone in our journey with Dalton, one that fills my heart with hope and excitement. I was able to successfully perform another trach change and trach care for my boy, and the feedback I received was overwhelming. The medical team said I did “so good,” and that simple compliment means the world to me. Each small step like this brings us closer to the day when we can finally bring Dalton home.

As many of you know, Dalton’s journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Every day is a battle, but also a victory, and today was no exception. The trach changes, though daunting at first, have become a bit easier with time. It’s still intimidating to look at the hole in his neck, but seeing how far we’ve come is nothing short of miraculous. This is yet another reminder of Dalton’s strength, and the incredible support we’ve received along the way.

When Dalton first arrived in the NICU, everything was unknown. He was so tiny, fragile, and surrounded by machines. The thought of doing his care myself, of taking on such an important responsibility, felt overwhelming. But here we are, and with every successful trach change, I feel more confident, more equipped, and more ready to take on the challenges that still lie ahead. Dalton’s growth, both physically and emotionally, has been such a beautiful thing to witness. The progress he’s made, despite the odds, is a testament to his strength, the skill of his medical team, and the love that surrounds him.

The trach change process itself is one that requires precision, care, and patience. For me, it’s been a learning curve, but one that has brought a sense of empowerment. The first time I did a trach change, I was nervous, unsure of myself, and fearful of making a mistake. But with each attempt, I’ve grown more comfortable and confident. Today, as I carefully took care of Dalton’s needs, I was filled with a sense of accomplishment and pride. The feedback from the medical team, who have been guiding me through this process, reassured me that we are on the right track.
While the trach changes have become easier, there is still a sense of awe and reverence every time I look at the hole in Dalton’s neck. It’s a constant reminder of what he’s been through, of the battles he’s fought, and of how far he’s come. This small part of his journey will always be a symbol of his resilience and strength, a mark of the hurdles he’s overcome and continues to push through every day.
Although the process is moving along, we’re not quite there yet. There are still a few more steps to take, more trach changes to do, and more healing for Dalton. But with every milestone, we are inching closer to the moment we’ve been dreaming of: bringing Dalton home. The thought of having him with us, outside of the sterile walls of the hospital, is one of the most powerful motivators in this journey. It keeps us going on the hard days, and it fills us with gratitude on the good days.

I’m so thankful for the incredible medical team that has guided us along this path. Their expertise, encouragement, and care have been invaluable. And of course, none of this would be possible without the unwavering love and support of our family and friends. It’s been such a relief to have so many people cheering us on and offering their love, prayers, and words of encouragement. Every message, every thoughtful gesture, has meant more than you’ll ever know.
But the most powerful force in Dalton’s recovery has been his own strength. He has shown us that no matter how small the step, how daunting the challenge, he’s up for it. His determination, even when faced with such adversity, continues to amaze us. Dalton is truly a warrior, and every day he proves that he’s capable of achieving more than we ever thought possible. His courage is what drives us forward, and as a parent, there is no greater inspiration.
We still have some hurdles ahead, but I am confident that we will overcome them just as we have with every other challenge. Each trach change is a reminder of how far we’ve come, and each one takes us closer to the day when Dalton will finally come home. That day is on the horizon, and I can feel it getting closer with every passing moment.
Thank you to everyone who has been with us on this journey. Your support has been a beacon of light in the darkest of times, and I am so grateful for every prayer, message, and word of encouragement. We’re not there yet, but we’re getting closer, and together, we’ll bring Dalton home.
Please continue to keep Dalton in your thoughts and prayers as we move forward, one step at a time. Every day is a victory, and we can’t wait to share the day when we finally bring our sweet boy home. 💙
