It all began in 2020, a year that would forever alter the course of our lives. Łukasz, just 4 years old at the time, was a vibrant, energetic child full of laughter and play. But as the pandemic confined us to our homes, we began to notice that something was wrong. Our son’s once boundless energy started to fade. He became more tired, more withdrawn, and his health seemed to be deteriorating.
As parents, we knew something wasn’t right, but it took us a while to figure out what it was. We took Łukasz to the hospital for tests, and after a CT scan, we received the news that no parent ever wants to hear: our precious boy had a craniopharyngioma tumor. It was a shock, a blow to the heart that shattered the normalcy of our world. In an instant, we were plunged into a reality we could never have prepared for.
The words of the doctors were a blur: the tumor had to be removed. But even as we absorbed this devastating news, we tried to hold on to hope. The path ahead was unclear, but we knew we had to fight for our son with everything we had. On May 13, 2020, Łukasz underwent his first surgery in Katowice to remove the tumor. But this was just the beginning of his battle. The surgery brought complications, leaving him with diabetes insipidus, hypothyroidism, and adrenal insufficiency.
Despite the physical toll, Łukasz remained strong. Every day he fought bravely, his smile a reminder of the light he brought into our lives. Even as his body struggled to cope with the changes, his spirit remained unbroken. His resilience was extraordinary. Watching him face each challenge with courage, and seeing the pure love he had for life, was nothing short of inspiring. Yet, as a family, we were broken inside, powerless against the constant medical battles we had to endure.
On July 16, 2021, Łukasz went back to the operating table for a second surgery. This time, the goal was to remove the remaining tumor, but there was no certainty that it would be the last. After the surgery, Łukasz began a course of stereotactic radiotherapy. Each step was a test of his endurance, and each day, we prayed for a breakthrough, a sign that his suffering would soon end. But our son’s strength continued to amaze us. He faced each new treatment with the courage of a warrior, never once allowing his fears to define him.
Today, Łukasz is under the care of multiple specialists in endocrinology and neurosurgery. His daily life is consumed by medications, check-ups, tests, and treatments. It is not the carefree childhood we had dreamed of for him. It’s a childhood marked by hospital visits, physical discomfort, and the quiet, unspoken sadness of a young boy who has missed out on so much. Yet, through it all, Łukasz has held on to a deep and unwavering hope. Despite everything, he smiles, he laughs, and he shows us every day that there is still joy to be found, even in the darkest moments.
In 2024, we were given more news: Łukasz would need growth hormone treatment due to his short stature. This was just one more challenge in a long list of obstacles, but it was one we couldn’t ignore. His body has grown slower than his peers, and we want to do everything in our power to make sure he has a chance at a normal life. This treatment is crucial, and we are determined to do everything we can to make it happen.
However, the financial burden is immense. The cost of Łukasz’s ongoing care, from private tests to therapies, is more than we can afford. Every trip to the doctor, every new treatment, brings us further into debt. The weight of it is crushing, and we are unable to bear it alone. But we cannot give up. Our son is worth every sacrifice, every struggle, and we are committed to giving him the future he deserves, no matter the cost.
Łukasz is not just a brave little boy—he is a symbol of resilience, of a spirit that refuses to be extinguished by illness or hardship. His journey has been filled with pain, but it has also been filled with moments of triumph, moments where he defied the odds and showed us the power of hope. He is a unique, sensitive soul who has faced challenges no child should ever have to face. Yet, he remains hopeful, and we draw strength from his courage every single day.
