A Heart-Wrenching Day for Mariah: Surgery, Complications, and a Brave Fight. h

It’s been a few days since our last update, but we are overjoyed to share some good news about Elijah’s journey. Every day has been filled with both challenges and small victories, and today, we’re celebrating the milestones he’s achieved.

A Positive Eye Exam

Elijah had his first eye exam recently, and we are thrilled to report that everything looked good. 🙌 As a preemie, Elijah is at a higher risk for a condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), which affects the blood vessels and nerves at the back of the eye. We’ll have a follow-up appointment in two weeks to monitor his progress closely, but for now, it’s all positive news! Seeing his progress in this area brings us so much relief and hope for the future.

Elijah’s Determined Spirit

As many of you know, Elijah is a little fighter with a big personality. He’s never one to follow the rules—he does what he wants, when he wants, and that includes showing off his new trick of taking off his diaper in the NICU. 😅 We’ve learned to expect the unexpected from this determined little man. He’s already making his mark in the world with his strong will, and we’re so proud of him for that. His personality shines through in every little thing he does.

Milestone After Milestone

Today, Elijah is 46 days old, and while his journey has been long and filled with uncertainty, he is making incredible progress. He weighs 2 lbs 14 oz today—so close to 3 pounds! Every ounce gained, every step forward, is a reason to celebrate, and we’re over the moon to see him grow stronger each day.

We know that milestones like this one mean we’re getting closer to Elijah being ready to take the next steps in his recovery. However, there are still some challenges ahead, and we ask for your continued prayers and support.

Prayers for Elijah’s Next Steps

We’re asking for prayers in the coming days as Elijah faces a few important hurdles:

  • 🌟 Please pray that his electrolytes tolerate the next round of Lasix, an important medication he needs to help his body maintain the proper balance.
  • 🌟 We ask for prayers that his PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) responds well to the ibuprofen. This condition affects the blood flow in his heart, and closing it is crucial for his continued development.
  • 🌟 Finally, please pray that closing the PDA will help Elijah take the next steps toward weaning off CPAP. We’re hopeful that this will be another major milestone on his journey to breathing on his own.

One Day at a Time

It’s incredible to see how far Elijah has come, but we know there are still challenges ahead. Each day, each ounce gained, and every calm moment is a step closer to his full recovery. Elijah has proven time and again that he is a fighter, and we are so thankful for every little victory. We continue to take this one day at a time, and every prayer, every word of encouragement, and every ounce of love has meant the world to us.

Gratitude for Your Support

Thank you to everyone who continues to lift our little fighter up in prayer. Your support has been invaluable, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you. Please keep Elijah in your thoughts as he takes these next steps on his journey. We know that with your love and prayers, Elijah will continue to fight, grow stronger, and one day soon be able to share his story of resilience with all of us.
