Emilka was born in January 2014 as a healthy, vibrant, and joyful little girl. From her earliest days, she radiated life. She babbled words eagerly, took her first steps at just ten months old, and developed with a curiosity and energy that delighted her family.

Emilka loved to sing, often performing with a toy microphone in front of anyone who would watch, changing outfits to match the songs she loved. She adored playing with her older sister, whether painting, tending to dolls, or pretending to play doctor. She was everywhere — smiling, laughing, and filling her home with life. She was their little star.
Life for Emilka and her family seemed ordinary and full of promise until one Sunday morning in March 2018. The day began like any other, with plans to attend church together. Emilka woke up early, calling for her mother, but this time something was wrong. She didn’t respond normally, her eyes fixed on a single point, silent and unresponsive. Panic set in. Her parents called an ambulance as their little girl, so full of life and energy, suddenly experienced her first seizure. That day, March 11, 2018, their world shattered.

At the hospital in Białystok, the initial tests revealed what no parent wants to hear: a tumor in Emilka’s brain. The next day, she was transferred to the Children’s Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw for neurosurgery. Emilka’s tiny body faced a daunting challenge — a major operation to remove the tumor from her frontal lobe. On March 15, 2018, after nine grueling hours, the surgery was complete. The tumor was removed successfully, but the biopsy confirmed the devastating truth: it was a malignant AT/RT tumor, one of the most aggressive forms of childhood brain cancer.
This was only the beginning of Emilka’s fight. She was moved to the oncology department, where her second home became the hospital itself. The treatments began immediately. Emilka underwent another operation to insert a vascular port for her chemotherapy. Her tiny veins, delicate and fragile, often burst under the repeated cannulations. Each chemotherapy session was grueling. She endured five cycles of extremely strong chemotherapy, losing her long hair after the very first session. Complications followed each treatment, yet Emilka’s spirit remained unbroken.

After chemotherapy, she faced thirty radiation sessions under general anesthesia — every single day for a month. A mask secured her to the treatment table, and yet she endured, fighting through exhaustion, fear, and pain that no child should ever face. This was followed by another four cycles of chemotherapy, completing a total of nine intensive sessions, each requiring blood transfusions and antibiotics to support her frail body. The hospital had become a second home for Emilka, where nurses in pink scrubs lovingly referred to her as “our crazy little whirlwind,” a fitting nickname for the energetic girl who ran through the corridors, exploring every corner even when she was exhausted from her relentless treatments.
Despite the unimaginable hardships, Emilka’s bravery and vitality shone through. Her family witnessed a courage beyond her years — a little girl who, in the face of relentless chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries, still found ways to laugh, move, and inspire everyone around her. Every step, every word, every flicker of her bright eyes was a victory, proof of her determination to survive and thrive.

Her journey was not just a fight against cancer; it was a test of hope, resilience, and the power of love. Emilka’s parents stood by her every moment, sacrificing their own comfort and stability to be by her side, offering support, encouragement, and endless love. The hospital staff, doctors, and nurses became extensions of the family, guiding them through the most difficult days with expertise, compassion, and humanity.
Today, Emilka is five years old — a survivor, a fighter, and a shining example of resilience. The road ahead remains long, with continued monitoring and care, but Emilka’s story is already one of triumph against impossible odds. She has shown that even the youngest warriors can possess extraordinary strength, teaching everyone around her the true meaning of courage.

Her journey reminds us that even in the darkest moments, hope can prevail. Emilka’s laughter, her spirit, and her energy continue to light up the world around her. And while she still faces challenges, her fight is a testament to human endurance, love, and the unwavering determination of a little girl who refuses to give up. Emilka is not just surviving — she is living, inspiring, and proving every day that even the most malignant monsters can be confronted with bravery, resilience, and heart.
