Before Maja was even born, she was already the center of our hearts. Our love for her was unconditional, instinctive, and complete. We promised ourselves that we would do everything to protect her. Yet, nothing could have prepared us for the battle that would define her young life — a fight so unequal, so terrifying, and so full of pain that at times it seemed almost unbearable.

It all began with a subtle sign. One day, I noticed a small lump on Maja’s neck. At first, we assumed it was nothing serious. Our family doctor diagnosed it as a cyst, and for a moment, we allowed ourselves to breathe. But as a parent, I sensed that something more sinister might be at play. Trusting my instincts, I arranged a private ultrasound for Maja. That examination revealed two nodules on the left side of her thyroid gland. Relief came when a biopsy showed no signs of cancer. We believed we had seen the worst, thinking that only minor surgery would be required.

We were wrong.
After the first surgery, the histopathological results arrived. Our worst fears were confirmed: Maja had thyroid cancer. The news struck us like a lightning bolt. Fear, disbelief, and grief flooded our hearts. Our precious daughter, so full of life and promise, was now facing a dangerous and unpredictable enemy.
A second surgery was immediately necessary — to remove the entire thyroid gland. We trembled with anxiety as she went into the operating room, praying that she would come back to us unharmed. Thankfully, the surgery went well. Maja returned home, resumed school, and we dared to hope that the nightmare had passed. For a while, there were no signs of illness.
But life is often cruel. Just a month ago, the terror returned. I once again felt a lump on Maja’s neck — this time, it carried with it the weight of dread we had hoped never to feel again. Follow-up tests revealed the unimaginable: the cancer had metastasized to her cervical and extrasternal lymph nodes. Our world shattered once more.

Now, Maja faces yet another surgery to remove the growths on her left side. The procedure itself is fraught with uncertainty; it is possible that dangerous nodules exist on the right side, invisible to tests and imaging. The risks are significant: Maja could suffer a drooping eyelid, loss of sensation in her ear, or breathing difficulties. Yet despite the dangers, we have faith that the surgery will be successful, that our brave daughter will triumph once again over this relentless enemy.
Maja’s siblings — Wiktoria, Sylwek, and Paweł — are terrified for their sister. Their worry mirrors our own. But we are fortunate to have one another. As a family, we stand together, united in love and determination, supporting Maja through every appointment, every procedure, every anxious moment. Together, we fight not only the disease but the fear and uncertainty that come with it.
The journey ahead is long. Beyond the surgery, Maja will require extensive recovery and radioactive iodine treatment. Travel will be necessary to access the best care. The financial burden is immense, and the emotional toll even greater. Yet we remain committed to giving Maja the best possible chance at life, because she is worth every sacrifice, every sleepless night, every tear shed in hope and fear.

We are pleading for your support. Your help — whether spiritual, emotional, or financial — can make a tangible difference in our daughter’s fight. Every gesture of kindness brings hope, light, and strength to a family that refuses to give up. Maja is not just fighting for herself; she is fighting for the chance to live a full, joyful, and vibrant life that every child deserves.
We cannot imagine life without her, and we cannot stand idly by while this disease threatens her future. Please, do not look away. Stand with us in this battle. Help us give our daughter the opportunity to win this fight and return to the life she so dearly deserves.
