After missing out on Marc Guehi to Manchester City, Liverpool’s management has turned its attention to courting Tottenham’s top central defender, Micky Van de Ven.

The Anfield club is certain to strengthen its defense this summer, given the uncertain future of Konate and the aging Van Dijk.
In the summer of 2025, Liverpool almost signed Guehi for £35 million. However, Crystal Palace canceled the deal at the last minute of the transfer window.

The Reds’ defense has been fragile since the start of the season, and they are ready to restart their pursuit of Guehi. However, Manchester City was one step ahead of their rivals.
Offering a “huge” salary of £300,000 per week, the blue half of Manchester successfully persuaded Guehi to join the Etihad Stadium this winter for a fee of £20 million.

Having missed out on a key target, Liverpool’s bosses immediately turned to another player also playing in London: Van de Ven.
Sportsmail reports that Liverpool greatly admires the Dutch center-back, who has not yet committed to a long-term future with Spurs, despite the club repeatedly urging him to sign an extension.
Van de Ven’s current contract with Tottenham runs until June 2029. The 24-year-old has performed outstandingly since joining Spurs from Wolfsburg.
The “Spurs” have had a disappointing season, but Van de Ven has still shown consistent form, scoring 3 goals in 21 Premier League appearances despite playing as a center-back.

As for Liverpool, the investment in the future, Giovanni Leoni, has almost fallen through due to the young Italian talent suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Konate is reportedly considering a move to Real Madrid, forcing the club to find a worthy replacement. Van de Ven is the name that manager Arne Slot likes best, given his high level of play and experience in the Premier League.
