Our daughter, Agatka, is only five years old, yet her young life has been defined by a battle no child should ever have to face. At just two years old, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer that strikes without warning.
From that day, her world became a series of hospital rooms, surgeries, chemotherapy and immunotherapy infusions, blood transfusions, and endless medical tests. Ordinary childhood joys—playgrounds, friends, laughter—were replaced by needles, machines, and the quiet hum of monitors. For us, her parents, every day has been a delicate balance of hope and fear, love and exhaustion, as we stand by her side through every step of this harrowing journey.
For the past two years, we have been in Barcelona, where Agatka receives treatment at a specialized hospital renowned for its expertise in neuroblastoma. Thanks to modern medicine and a dedicated team of doctors, we have made incredible progress in our fight. Each day presents its own challenges, yet each day also brings hope that a cure is within reach. The path has been long and difficult, but we now see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Just a year ago, Agatka faced a terrifying reality: twelve metastases had spread throughout her tiny body. The thought was almost unbearable. Yet, step by step, through every grueling treatment, the tumors began to recede. Today, only two remain, and even these are weakening. The primary tumor that once terrorized our lives has finally ceased to function. This progress is proof that the treatment is working, that the dream of a complete cure is not only possible but within our grasp.
But Agatka’s fight is far from over. The treatment she requires is both intensive and expensive. Each cycle includes five days of chemotherapy infusions followed by four days of painful immunotherapy using a modern drug unavailable in our home country of Poland. The infusions are so intense that she requires morphine and ketamine to manage the pain, yet they are crucial in targeting the aggressive cancer cells. Daily oral chemotherapy also targets the ALK mutation in her tumor, a therapy carefully tailored to give her the best chance at survival. These cycles are followed by two weeks of recovery, blood transfusions, and management of side effects, testing her strength, courage, and endurance every single day.
The treatments, while effective, have taken a toll on Agatka’s young body. Nerve damage in her spine has weakened her right leg and muscles on the right side of her back. Her posture is affected, and each step, each movement, is an effort. She experiences fatigue, pain, and discomfort that no child should ever endure. Yet, even in these moments, her spirit shines through. She smiles, she laughs, and she reminds everyone around her of the extraordinary courage that children can possess.
The hospital anticipates eight more cycles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and thanks to a previous fundraiser, we can cover four of them. However, we lack the funds for the remaining four cycles and the associated hospital stays. Without your help, we cannot complete this critical phase of treatment. We cannot stop now—not after everything Agatka has endured, not after every tear, every sleepless night, every injection, every painful infusion. We are so close to the goal, and every day counts.
